The Challenges

Supporting Cybersecurity Workloads

Running cybersecurity software at distributed customer locations required a compact edge solution capable of delivering reliable computing performance while maintaining low power consumption. The customer needed hardware that could continuously process security workloads without sacrificing reliability. An efficient processor was essential for supporting long term edge deployments.

Secure Remote Management

Many deployments were located at remote customer sites where onsite maintenance could be time consuming and costly. The customer needed a solution that supported Premio EDGEBoost OOB for secure remote management, allowing administrators to access and manage deployed devices without relying solely on the primary network. Combined with integrated 4G LTE connectivity, the solution provided an independent communication path that helped maintain remote accessibility and simplify troubleshooting when network disruptions occurred.

Storage Flexibility

Cybersecurity applications require dependable local storage for operating systems, application software, and collected data. The customer needed a solution that could accommodate storage requirements while maintaining a compact footprint. Flexible storage support simplified deployment across multiple customer environments.

High Speed Network Connectivity

Monitoring network activity and supporting secure communications required reliable Ethernet performance. The customer needed multiple high speed network interfaces to connect security appliances with customer infrastructure. Stable connectivity was critical for maintaining continuous network visibility.

Meeting Deployment Requirements

Because the solution would be deployed across a variety of customer environments, hardware compliance was an important consideration. Using UL Listed hardware helped satisfy customer deployment requirements while providing confidence in long term operation. The customer wanted a solution ready for commercial and enterprise installations.

The Solution

Premio's rugged embedded computer (RCO-1000-ASL-20-OOB)

The RCO-1000-ASL is a super rugged fanless mini computer designed for demanding edge computing applications where space, reliability, and flexibility are essential. Measuring just 150 × 105 × 56 mm, its compact footprint allows it to be easily deployed in space-constrained environments while supporting cableless, fanless operation, a 9–36VDC wide power input, and a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 70°C for dependable performance in harsh conditions.

The RCO-1000-ASL family includes the -10, -20, and -30 models, offering one, two, or three Premio EDGEBoost I/O expansion slots to accommodate a wide range of application requirements. These modular expansion options support additional USB, COM, HDMI, DisplayPort, and isolated DIO interfaces, while the RCO-1000-ASL-20-OOB is purpose-built with Premio EDGEBoost OOB, enabling secure remote management and out-of-band access for distributed deployments.

Intel® Atom® x7433RE Processor
